5 REASONS WHY AN IN HOME NEWBORN SESSION IS BEST FOR SIBLINGS {NORTH NJ NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHER}
So you are having a baby… again. Maybe it’s your 2nd time, maybe it’s your 3rd or 4th. That does not make it any less special and it’s a time in your life that should absolutely be documented. The only problem is that you have a few high energy toddlers around and you want to include them but a posed studio session just sounds exhausting and unrealistic.
An in-home lifestyle newborn session is the perfect solution for parents with multiple children and here’s why.
Your toddlers/Older Kids are comfortable in their own environment.
You want to include your toddlers in the photos of course, but they don’t want to sit through an hour+ long studio session and you know they won’t cooperate the whole time. This way they can watch TV, have their snacks, lunch, whatever and we can coax them to join us for the photos here and there when they are ready. Sometimes the older ones are really not into it and this allows them to participate on their own terms and as much or as little as they or you want.
2. You don’t have to worry about them when we are taking photos of you and your baby.
We want to take photos your newborn bonding with both of his parents’ and if you are chasing after toddlers in a studio, that’s just not feasible or easy and it’s really stressful. This way, your spouse or partner can watch the kiddos or they can play on your own while you focus on bonding with your new little one and and we capture all the snuggles.
3. Your home is more conducive to including your toddlers.
Because they are comfortable, they are more likely to get in the frame. It’s also much safer to have them sit with baby somewhere like the master bed or even a soft rug on the floor. It’s all very relaxed so it shouldn’t ever feel like a chore for them, just me capturing some sibling bonding that they would already be doing.
4. It’s a good excuse to get Grandma and Grandpa to come over.
While we are focusing on the little one, Grandma and Grandpa can lend a helping hand with the toddlers… and then we can sneak them in the frame for a couple of photos as well. Odds are that they would be visiting anyway in the first few weeks of baby’s life so why not include them in the fun.
5. Because you have all of your stuff!
If your kiddo spills on themselves, you can change them! Or if your kid is like my kid and decides to have a freak out half way through the day about the bumpy elastic on his pants, you can change him. You have access to all of your things, to feed, change diapers, change clothes and the 1,000 other things that you do for your kids every day.
The other thing that I want to stress, is Don’t Stress! The whole point of doing this at your house is so that you don’t have to stress. Don’t worry about cleaning or tidying. I can and will move all of the clutter behind where I’m shooting. And don’t ever feel embarrassed about it! I’m the type of person who has 6 Ikea bags full of unfolded laundry on my bedroom floor at any given moment and legos hiding in every corner just waiting to be stepped on. I am also the type of person who takes precautions so if one of my kiddos is sick, I will reschedule, and while we are in times of Covid, I will wear my mask for all my indoor sessions.
The session featured in this post was an awesome family who was completely remodeling their home. Half of the rooms were under construction but you would never know because we just didn’t shoot there.
